Source pathway descriptionDirect air capture using electrolysis to fix atmospheric carbon dioxide into seawater and as a mineral. Electrolyzer unit uses electricity to split seawater into hydrogen and oxygen, then exposes it to atmospheric air to capture CO2, trapping it in dissolved bicarbonate ions and solid mineral carbonates. Hydrogen is captured and processed for clean fuel applications.
Storage descriptionGreenhouse gas locked away in dissolved bicarbonate ions and solid mineral carbonates for thousands of years in the ocean. Seawater returned to chemically comparable original state.
Delivery window2024 pilot; anticipated removal of over 300 tonnes CO2 per year during demonstration
Project locationQuebec, Canada (Deep Sky's Alpha pilot facility)
NotesPilot project announced November 8, 2023. Technology previously piloted at Port of Los Angeles and Singapore. Equatic also has pre-purchase option agreement with Boeing for 62,000 tonnes CO2 removal. Deep Sky CEO: Damien Steel.
